Vayalada - View point

When it comes to  hill tops and view points, Kerala offers plenty. Most of them are already well known and laden with tourists. So we set out on a quest to find some less explored areas around our own city, Kozhikode.... Which led us to Vyalada.

The ride took us along scenic serpentine mountain roads until a point were the road culminated abruptly. We sought help for our further journey from a nearby shop. The owner pointed us the way and invited us for a dish of local tapioca ( kappa) on our way back. We promised to pay him a visit as the aroma was too irresistible. The short walk along unpaved roads led us to the areas of dense vegetation with lush green grass standing tall on both sides.

The climb uphill was moderate. It took us about 30 mins to reach the plateau. The view, as imagined, was spectacular.


The area oversees the Kakkayam catchment area and dam. The looming rain clouds with the fairy mist, gave us peeks of the beauty hidden behind them.



We spent  two whole hours  on this wonderful hilltop enjoying the silence and drizzle. We returned once it started  pouring, took shelter in the same shop and relished the hot tapioca delicacy (kappa).

Vayalada is about 1.5 hours from Kozhikode and about 12 km from the nearest town Balusseri. Buses are available to Balusseri from Kozhikode and Koyilandy frequently but less frequently to Vayalada. I think the best way is to ride, as the the roads are perfect for a calm evening getaway.

To the edge of the world - The Laitlum canyons

Situated around 30 km from Shillong, lies an exotic secret of the untouched North eastern India - The Laitlum canyons. Unblemished yet, by tourism and commercialization, the pristine Laitlum lends a majestic view down to the valley of the East Khasi hills, overlooking the Raslong hamlet. Surely, a must visit for any travel enthusiast. Just 11 km from Shillong on the way to Laitlum is the Smit village. This village seems innocently disconnected from the modern world with its traditional houses, the buses from the 60s’ movies, with people sitting over them and simple riding-trolleys to carry water and amenities. Laitlum is a short drive by taxi, from Smit village. Another alternative would be to hire a taxi from Shillong to reach Laitlum in approximately an hour. Dzükou/Dzüko Valley

Well.... there is no other way of putting it.... The north-eastern states of India are a paradise on earth for any traveller. The diversity and uniqueness of this region has captivated numerous anthropologists and researchers. Post independence, our leaders intended to safeguard the sanctity of these regions, which meant giving the indigenous tribes the respect and space to practice their ways of life.  The place has thus, remained largely untouched by "mordernisation" making it (in my opinion) one of the most beautiful places to visit.  This was my third visit to North-East India, but my first to the land of 'Nagas'. Solo biking in the land of passes - Ladakh

Well... first things first... by no stretch of imagination am I what you call a "rider". Frankly speaking, I have not ridden a 'bullet' for more than 10 km at a stretch. So.... this blog is definitely not for the hardcore riders out there! It is a humble narration of my experience of exploring this beautiful part of the world as a rookie biker 😊😊....and.... maybe inspire some novices to attempt something new😇. This has to be the most unplanned trip I  have ever had. The last minute change of plans from a journey to North east India , all I had was 2 hours in the airport to change my tickets to Leh and plan the rest ON THE GO!! It was a mesmerizing experience of  landing in the  Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh. The landing approach takes you between hills with a final sharp left turn to align with the runway just before landing..... truly spectacular!! A First Adventure: Hiking with our 3-Year-Old

As parents, we look forward to those special “firsts” with our children, and this past weekend, my wife and I had the joy of taking our 3-year-old son on his very first trek. We set out to Kailasagiri, a spot rich with history and nature, just three hours from Bangalore. What made this experience even more memorable was our son’s excitement. He loves to travel and be outdoors. If you're planning a visit, Google Maps will guide you to the starting point of the Kailasagiri cave temple. As we learned from the locals, this particular temple is a more recent creation, blasted and carved out of the rock—though I couldn’t find any official information to confirm this. If any readers have more details or can shed light on this, I’d love to hear from you!. Just before reaching the parking area, you’ll notice a rough road to the left.
